Description:
Shrub, up to 2.5 m. Leaves with 6-13 pairs of leaflets; leaflets 1.2 - 4 cm long, ovate to elliptic, slightly asymmetric; ± glabrous on upper surface; margin often inrolled beneath. Flowers in terminal racemes. Bracts 3 mm, linear. Calyx campanulate, with conspicuous teeth, c. 2 mm long. Petals creamy-white. Pods beaded with 1-4 seeds.
Notes: It is closely related to the typical subspecies which grows in Asia (SW China, NE and W India, Indonesia and Timor). It has been suggested that it might be a descendant of a plant introduced centuries ago through trading contacts during the peak of the Zimbabwe culture.
