Perennial trailing or climbing herb. Leaves trifoliolate, variously hairy. Flowers in terminal inflorescences, white sometimes tinged with purple.
Notes: A widespread species with several subspecies and varieties throughout the Old World tropics. Only subsp. wightii var. longicauda is found in Zimbabwe.
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: In woodland, grassland, scrub and riverine thicket.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 2000 m
Flowering time:Oct - May
Worldwide distribution: Widespread from Arabia and Ethiopia south to South Africa and Swaziland
