Description:
Perennial herb with annual prostrate or sprawling stems up to 20 cm long, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves ovate to almost round, 5-15 mm long, sometimes slightly cordate at the base, hairy, particularly on the margin and midrib. Flowers in few-flowered terminal racemes, purple or pink, sometimes streaked with yellow. Capsule c. 4.5 × 4 mm, almost round, slightly winged.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ohlendorfiana: uncertain but probably for Johann Heinrich Ohlendorff (1788-1857), German curator of the Hamburg Botanical Garden.
Habitat: In montane grassland.
Altitude range: (metres) 1800 - 2550 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Southern Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa as far as the Eastern Cape.
