Description: |
Suffrutex with erect unbranched stems from a creeping woody rhizome. Leaves subsessile; Leaves subsessile, narrowly oblong to oblanceolate, 5–13 cm long, rounded and minutely mucronate at the apex, almost hairless on both surfaces, pale green beneath, often with two glands near the base; lateral veins c. 6 pairs, tertiary venation markedly reticulate and prominent beneath; stipules linear, c. 4 mm long, hairy. Inflorescences axillary, up to 5 cm long, c. 8-flowered; peduncle sparsely hairy or hairless, partially adnate to the stem for c. 5 mm; pedicels c. 2 mm long; bracts c. 2 mm long. Sepals narrow, c. 7 mm long, free almost to the base, hairy at the apex, becoming hairless towards the base. Petals narrowly oblong, c. 7 mm long, 2-fid for 2/3 their length, creamy-whitish, hairless. Stamens as long as petals. Fruit obovoid, 4 cm long. |
Notes: | Extremely poisonous to cattle. Based on the herbarium specimens in SRGH on 13 December 2006, this species is relatively frequent in the western Division; rare (1 specimen) in the central division and rare (1 record, no specimen) in division S. |
