Description:
Shrub or small unarmed tree. Leaves alternate on lateral branches, ovate to elliptic, glossy dark green above, glabrous; margin finely toothed to almost entire. Flowers in small axillary clusters, cream to greenish-white. Fruit a 2-3-lobed capsule, rough and wrinkled on the outside, green when mature.

Derivation of specific name: chasei: named for Norman C Chase (1888 - 1970), one of our foremost collectors of Zimbabwean plants
