Description:
See Bersama abyssinica for general description details. This subspecies differs in the rhachis NOT being winged and the leaflets with the margins entire. The flowers are generally smaller with petals 10-12 mm long and the calyx is mostly pink-tinged.
Notes: This subspecies is of doubtful occurrence in Zimbabwe. However, there is a folder in SRGH labelled in Bob Drummond's handwriting '? subsp. abyssinica'. In it is one herbarium sheet which is totally blank apart from the label which says 'Fruit collection only". The specimen was collected by W.L. Williams at Mt Selinda.
Derivation of specific name: abyssinica: of Abyssinia (Ethiopia)
Habitat: In evergreen forest, along margins of forest and in secondary forest.
Altitude range: (metres) 1200 - 1600 m

Worldwide distribution: DRC, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and ?Zimbabwe.
