Description:
Somewhat shrubby perennial herb, up to 70 cm high. Stems erect or decumbent, hairless. Leaves spirally arranged, ovate-lanceolate or more or less elliptic, 2.5-5.5 cm long, base running into the short petiole; margin finely toothed. Flowers solitary, deep red. Dorsal petal forming a hood; upper lateral petals c. 8 × 4 mm, broadly ovate-elliptic; lower lateral petals c. 5 × 4 mm, broadly ovate; spur on the lower sepal, very broadly trumpet-shaped, gradually tapering, 20-32 mm long, sharply incurved, sometimes slightly bifid at the apex.

Habitat: Along water courses and in shady places, growing in wet grass among ferns.
