Description:
Annual herb with prostrate or ascending stems up to c. 60 cm long; branches hairless or with a line of scattered setulose hairs on one side only. Leaves narrowly lanceolate-oblong, up to 6 cm long, basal setae absent, mostly hairless; margin crenate-serrate; petiole c. 7 mm long, pubescent; stipules setaceous, c. 5 mm long. Inflorescences of 2–5-flowered clusters, opposite or sub-opposite the upper leaf axils; pedicels 0·1 mm long, pubescent; bracts setaceous, c. 5 mm long. Petals yellow, slightly longer than the sepals. Stamens 5–10. Capsule on an erect fruiting pedicel, more or less cylindric, c. 1–1·5 cm long, with a short beak c. 1 mm. long, quite densely hairy, many-seeded.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: fascicularis: fascicled or clustered, referring to the flowers and fruit.
