Description: |
Perennial herb or small shrub, up to c. 1 m tall but sometimes as short as 9 cm, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves suborbicular in outline, up to 5 × 5 cm, palmately 3–5-lobed down to the base; lobes narrowly elliptic to obovate, sometimes 3–5-lobed again, hairless or nearly so; petiole 8–25 mm long; stipules filiform or very narrowly linear, 2·5 mm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, 3·5–4 cm in diameter, yellow with a purple centre; peduncle 2–6 cm long. Epicalyx of up to 12 filiform to very narrowly linear bracts 2–3 mm long. Calyx 10–15 mm long with lobes elongate-triangular, black-spotted. Capsule subglobose, 9 mm wide, hairless. Seeds with silky floss. |
