Description:
Shrubby perennial herb, uo to 40 cm high with spreading to ascending branches. All vegetative parts more or less densely greyish-stellate-hairy and with some glandular hairs. Leaves narrowly oblong-elliptic to lanceolate; margin entire to serrate; petiole up to 6 mm long; stipules oblong-lanceolate, up to 2 cm long but mostly smaller, 3-veined from the base. Flowers mostly in 3-5-flowered axillary clusters on peduncles up to 4 mm long; bracts solitary, lanceolate, up to 1 cm long, entire, toothed or 2-3-partite. Calyx 7-10 mm long, lobed to about half the length, densely glandular hairy. Petals oblong-spathulate, 8-12 mm long, yellow, densely pubescent in the lower half.
Notes: Zimbabwean plants appear to have more prominently serrated leaves and smaller flowers than those from South Africa but otherwise match very well.
Derivation of specific name: staurostemon: with crosswise stamens.
Habitat: Submontane ericoid and bracken scrub, along mountain streams and roadsides.
