Description:
Robust well-branched perennial herb, up to 3 m tall, sometimes woody at the base. Leaves lanceolate or elliptic, 2-13 cm long, hairless except for some minute hairs on midrib and margin when very young; petiole 2-20 mm long. Flowers in clusters on short, axillary, small-leaved shoots, yellow. Sepals, petals and stamens 4. Capsule 10-20 mm long, light brown, finely pitted when young, becoming smooth, hairless.

Habitat: In swampy places.
