Description:
Evergreen shrub or small tree. Leaves elliptic to obovate-oblong covered in rusty hairs that rub off with age. Flowers greenish to white in small clusters in leaf axils or on the old wood. Fruits fleshy, purple-black when ripe, containing milky latex.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: inerme: unarmed, without spines
Habitat: Typically a coastal forest species, in Zimbabwe found along rivers and in open woodland, often associated with termite mounds.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 700 m
Flowering time:Jan - Jul
Worldwide distribution: Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
