Description: |
Perennial herb with annual stems, growing from a large tuberous rootstock. Stem with milky latex, single, branching near the base, up to 60 cm tall, ascending or erect, hairless or minutely pubescent with short white hairs. Leaves opposite, linear, up to 8-20 cm long, minutely pubescent with stiff white hairs, particularly on the margin and the midrib. Flowers in terminal or extra-axillary 2-5-flowered erect umbels on a peduncle, up to 18 cm long. Corolla lobes spreading, greenish and hairless on the outside, chrome-yellow and minutely papillose inside. Corona lobes yellow or orange, erect, c. 1.5 times as tall as the column; lower margin extending with a tooth over the column; 1 or 2 small teeth present in the cavity of the corona lobes. Fruit a single follicle, fusiform, c. 11 × 0.6 cm, beaked, smooth, hairless when mature, erect on a straight pedicel. |
