Description:
Deciduous scrambling or twining shrub with succulent stems up to 4 m tall; branches green when young, becoming pale grey to greyish-brown. Leaves opposite, pendent to spreading, bright green, hairless, broadly ovate-cordate, 35–80 mm long; petiole 20–40 mm long. Inflorescence axillary on young green side branches, umbellate, up to 50 mm long,, 15–30-flowered; peduncles 35–55 mm long; pedicles 6–8 mm long. Corolla lobes fused at the base, oblong. 5 mm long, twisted, yellow, sometimes purple at the base. Corona white, 3.5– 4.0 mm high. Follicles erect, 45 mm long, shortly beaked, conspicuously winged, hairless.

Derivation of specific name: alatus: winged, referring to the winged follicles
Habitat: In rocky screes in dry river valleys.
