Description:
Succulent perennial with slender almost prostrate stems up to 30 cm long. Flowers 1-3 together, facing upwards on pedicels up to 2.5 cm long. Sepals narrowly ovate, 6-9 mm long. Corolla 4-6 cm in diameter, cream-coloured, more or less densely mottled with brownish-red; tube bell-shaped, 7.5-10 mm long, dark maroon inside, shiny at the base; lobes broadly deltate, 10-12 mm long and 14-18 mm wide at the base.
Notes: This species is closely related to H. hislopii but can be readily distinguished by the long and slender, creeping stems.
Derivation of specific name: occulta: concealed or hidden, referring to its habit of growing in deep shade under dense scrub.
Habitat: On Dwalas (Whaleback kopjes), in deep shade, hidden under scrub vegetation such as Coleochloa and Myrothamnus.
