Description:
Succulent perennial forming clumps or mats up to 1 m in diameter. Stems decumbent or erect, 25-300 mm long, grey-green to reddish. Inflorescences 1-3 flowers together at the base of the stems on pedicels 6-12 mm long, facing slightly upwards. Sepals 5-8 mm long. Corolla 20-30 mm wide, bell-shaped, cream suffused with maroon or brown, papillate outside; inside cream with irregular concentric maroon rings in the tube and blotches on the lobes, densely papillate; tube 6-9 mm longl lobes deltate, 4.5-9 mm long and 70-9.5 mm wide, slightly folded up towards the tips.

Derivation of specific name: volkartii: after George Volkart from Switzerland, friend of botanist John Gossweiler who published this taxon.
Habitat: In leaflitter and in shallow soils over rock in Brachystegia woodland or on granite outcrops among clumps of Myrothamnus flabellifolius or carpets of Selaginella dregei<
