Description: |
Perennial herb with several creeping or erect stems, up to 1.2 m long, growing from a woody rootstock. Most parts densely, softly hairy or almost hairless. Leaves very variable in shape and size, usually ovate, elliptic truncate, rounded, subcordate or slightly hastate at the base, covered in long fulvous hairs on both Surfaces or sometimes hairless; petiole 0.5-2.5 cm long. Flowers axillary, solitary or in small heads on a peduncle 2-7 cm long. Bracts linear to ovate, leaf-like, 0.3-2 cm long, hairy. Sepals unequal, ovate, drawn out to a narrow pointed apex, rounded or subcordate at the base, outer 1-2.5 cm long, inner shorter and narrower. Corolla funnel-shaped, white, red or white with a darker purple centre, 3-3.5 cm long, mid-petaline areas distinctly edged by raised veins, shortly hairy towards the apex. Capsule globose, hairless. |
