Description:
Prostrate or decumbent annual herb. Stem sparsely branched, up to 30 cm, pubescent. Leaves ovate with shallow teeth; glandular hairy, particularly on the major veins below. Flowers solitary, axillary, white with purple markings on the corolla tube and upper lip.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ovata: ovate or egg-shaped, referring to the leaves
Habitat: A weed of cultivation, riversides and open woodland.
Altitude range: (metres) 750 - 2400 m

Worldwide distribution: From West Africa to Ethiopia, Sudan, south to Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe. Also in Madagascar and Mascarene Islands
