Description:
Perennial herb with several stems growing in a tuft from a stout woody rootstock. Stems c.300-400 mm long, erect or dccumbent, sparingly branched, puberulous. Leaves opposite becoming alternate towards the top, linear-oblong or very narrowly elliptic, primary largest l5-35 mm long (axillary leaves smaller otherwise similar, midrib raised beneath, depressed above, both surfaces glandular-punctate; margin thickened, entire or rarely with a very minute callose teeth. Inflorescence a small well-branched terminal corymbose panicle up to c. 40 mm in diameter, composed of racemes up to c. 15-35 mm in fruit. Calyx 2-2.25 mm long, very minutely glandular outside. Corolla broadly funnel-shaped, 1.8-2 mm long and 3-4 mm wide, white; lobes oblong or elliptic.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: serpentina: serpentine, referring to its restricted habitat on the serpentine soils of the Great Dyke.
Habitat: Grassland on serpentine soils. Very rarely on nearby granite.
