Description:
Perennial herbs, up to 40 cm tall; stem slender, erect or scrambling, branches mostly scabrid-pubescent, ascending, slender, densely leafy. Leaves alternate or clustered, narrowly linear, 2–8(14) mm long, densely scabrid-pubescent. Inflorescences at ends of branches, in somewhat laxly branched heads. Bracts boat-shaped, c. 2 x 1.5 mm, ciliate, almost hairless to minutely hispid. Calyx 1–1.75 mm long, (2)3-lobed, lobes subequal, linear-oblong, obtuse, shortly ciliate, almost hairless. Corolla mauve to pinkish-mauve or white, 3–3.8 mm long, sparsely short-pubescent outside.

Derivation of specific name: swynnertonii: named after Charles Francis Massey Swynnerton (1877-1938), well-known naturalist, who first recorded and collected many species of flora and fauna in and around the Chirinda Forest
