Description:
Deciduous shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, elliptic, leaves at the start of the season often much smaller than the later leaves, thinly leathery, usually short-hairy on the undersurface; hairtuft domatia present. Flowers axillary, often solitary but sometimes in up to 5-flowered clusters, appearing with or before the new leaves, creamy-white, corolla tube bearded. Fruit ellipsoid, c. 10 mm in diameter, crowned with the remains of the calyx, red when ripe.

Derivation of specific name: jasminiflora: with jasmine-like flowers
Habitat: In riverine thickets, lowland evergreen forest, mixed deciduous woodland and on alluvial soils on floodplains.
