Description:
Carpet forming, prostrate creeping herb, rooting at the nodes. Stems, up to 60 cm long, sometimes underground. Leaves up to c. 4 × 6 cm, broadly ovate to kidney-shaped, dark green to blue-green, mostly hairless except for occasional hairs on the midrib below. Flowers in few-flowered clusters, white. Fruit a berry, 7-8 mm in diameter, purple, blue or black when ripe, crowned with the remains of the calyx lobes.
Notes: Differs from G. repens in inflorescences being several-flowered; bracts forming a distinct involucre and the purple-black fruit
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: On sandy soils in evergreen forest and moist Brachystegia woodland.
Altitude range: (metres) 250 - 1740 m

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Burundi, DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
