Description: |
Multi-stemmed dwarf shrub with much-branched stems up to 1 m long, often shorter. Branches and leaves densely covered in whitish spreading hairs. Leaves in whorls of 3, sessile, spreading to ascending, linear-lanceolate to narrowly ovate, 3-11 mm long; margins strongly rolled under. Flowers in 3-9-flowered clusters, greenish-yellow to creamy-yellow, often marked with red. |
Notes: | It is worth noting that the author in the protologue is Britten and this is followed by us and in most literature, however, several online databases such as IPNI and Plants of the World Online use Hiern as author citing the same protologue. |
Derivation of specific name: | whyteanum: after Alexander Whyte (1834-1908), Scottish explorer and botanist who collected plants in Liberia, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda, He was curator of the Entebbe Botanic Garden and head of the Scientific Department in Zomba, Malawi. |
