Description:	Perennial herb, 20-50 cm tall, with few to many sparsely branched stems arising from a pale rootstock. Leaves few and small, 1.5-6 mm long and mostly less than 1 mm wide, linear-lanceolate; margin entire or with few minute teeth. Inflorescence terminal, contracted, usually less than 10-flowered. Corolla 5.5-9 mm long, whitish to pale blue, deeply split into linear lobes. Capsule 3-valved, 1.5-2.5 mm.

Derivation of specific name:	subaphylla: more or less without leaves
Habitat:	Montane grassland, often in rocky places.
