Description:
Erect perennial herb. Stems one to several, up to 50 cm. Leaves along the stem, lanceolate, 3-5-veined from the base; margin somewhat ridged, minutely serrulate. Flower heads mostly solitary, terminal on long peduncles. Ray-florets white to violet-blue, 3-dentate at the apex. Disk-florets yellow.
Notes: Specimens from the Nyanga area (see photos) seem to be generally shorter, with the leaves concentrated on the lower part of the stem. However, it is presently not possible to distinguish these plants as a separate subspecific taxon.
Derivation of specific name: harveyanus: after William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), Irish botanist, and botanical pioneer. He co-authored the first three volumes of Flora Capensis.
nyikensis: of the Nyika Plateau in Malawi and Zambia.
Habitat: In montane grassland.

Worldwide distribution: (this subspecies) Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Other subspecies are found in Eswatini and South Africa.
