Description:
Perennial herb or small subshrub, up to 20 cm, much branched and woody at the base. Leaves needle-like in tufts along the stems. Capitula terminal; disc flowers yellow, surrounded by numerous white ray flowers. The ray flowers are often rolled up in older capitula (image 2).
Notes: Two other subspecies are recognized, occurring in Botswana and South Africa.
Derivation of specific name: muricata: muricate (rough, with sharp tubercles or protuberances)
Habitat: In grassland and open woodland.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini and Mpumalanga, Free State, North-West, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape South Africa.
