Description:
Erect, somewhat scrambling, annual or short-lived perennial herb, up to 70 cm. Stems simple, glandular. Leaves narrowly oblanceolate, velvety white below; margin toothed. Inflorescences in dense terminal heads. Capitula white to purple-blue. Bracts often reddish.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: capensis: of the Cape
Habitat: In the sand and mud of dried up streams, pans and pools; in grassland and mopane woodland; also a colonist of cultivated areas.
Altitude range: (metres) 360 - 2250 m
Flowering time:Mostly May - Oct, occasionally in other months
Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Angola, Zimbabwe and South Africa
