Description:
Perennial herb with unbranched stems, up to 40 cm tall, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves in 1-several basal rosettes, up to 12 × 2 cm, elliptic-spathulate, whitish woolly, sometimes only on the margins; stem leaves up to 30 × 5 mm, oblong-lanceolate, glandular, often woolly on the margins. Capitula solitary, rarely 2-3, up to 3.2 cm in diameter, when fully opened. Phyllaries 7-9-seriate, bright yellow, 5-10 mm long, lanceolate-oblong. Florets yellow, numerous.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: aureum: golden;
monocephalum: with a single head.
Habitat: In submontane grassland and miombo woodland.
Altitude range: (metres) 1460 - 2560 m
Flowering time:Aug - Nov
Worldwide distribution: Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini and South Africa as far as the Eastern Cape.
