Synonyms: Helichrysum brunioides S. Moore
Helichrysum spenceranum Wild
Common names:
Frequency: Locally frequent
Status: Native
Description:
Slender, often straggling perennial with branches up to 45 cm tall. Leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate, 0.5 - 1 cm long, grey velvety, particularly below; apex mucronate; margin rolled under. Capitula in a many-flowered, hemi-spherical terminal heads. Involucral bracts oblong, c. 3-seriate, pale brownish-yellow, up to 3 mm long.
Notes: Zimbabwe Plant Red Data List (Mapaura & Timberlake in SABONET Report 14, 2002) and Endemic Plant Species of Zimbabwe (Mapaura in Kirkia vol 18 part 1, 2002) both list this species under the name H. spenceranum Wild and as endemic to the Zimbabwe side of the Chimanimani Mountains. However, In Wild's own unpublished draft Revision of Helichysum for Flora Zambesiaca(1980), H. moorei Staner is used, which apparently is an older name published in 1936. Also records from Mozambique are cited (Whellan 2239, 11-05-1965, K, SRGH and Grosvenor 391, 12-4-1967, SRGH).
