Synonyms: |
Bidens cylindrica Sherff |
Common names: | Yellow-flowered blackjack (English) |
Frequency: | Frequent |
Status: | Possibly native? |
Description: |
Erect annual herb, up to 1 m. It can be distinguished by the leaves, which are usually 5-7 foliolate, the basal pair sometimes further divided. The flowers are yellow, including the ray-florets. In B. pilosa, the leaves are 3-foliolate and the ray-florets, if present, are white. B. biternata is much less frequent in occurrence. |
Notes: | Believed to be indigenous, this is another weedy species, quite similar to two other weedy aliens Bidens pilosa and to Bidens bipinnata. B. pilosa differs from B. biternata in possessing 3-foliolate leaves and white (or no) ray florets; B. bipinnata differs in the 2-pinnatisect leaves. |
