Description:
This subspecies is clearly distinguished from subsp. angustifolia by the winged and crisped sepals. The flowers are yellow with a dark red centre.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: - tridentata: with three teeth;
- alatipes: with a winged foot; referring to the winged pedicel and calyx in this subspecies.
Habitat: Open forest, woodland, grassland, roadsides, disturbed and cultivated places.
Altitude range: (metres) 300 - 1100 m

Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
