Description:
Twining herb to 1 m. Leaves simple, sometimes ±3-lobed; petiole 1-3 cm; lamina ovate, pubescent; base cordate. Flowers borne in umbels. Corolla 16-25 mm long; the inflated base white; tube pale brown; lobes linear from a triangular base with blackish-green margins in the upper half and whitish with a green central line in the lower half, hairy. Corona cupular, the inner lobes papillose.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: papillata: bearing papillae.
Habitat: In open grassy areas in miombo woodland and along forest margins, occasionally on rock outcrops or on termite mounds.
Altitude range: (metres) 950 - 1850 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: DRC, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe distribution: C,E
