Description:
Compact spiny subshrub 20-50 cm tall. Axillary spines 2-4-rayed. Leaves 2.7-6.3 cm long, narrowly oblong or oblanceolate; leaves and bracts without a thickened white rim, subequal, with numerous broad sessile glands beneath towards the base. Inflorescence axillary; flowers solitary. Corolla 29-34 mm long, yellow, glabrous externally; tube 10.5-13 mm long; limb zygomorphic in a 4+1 arrangement. Ovary glabrous. Capsule 13-17 mm, glabrous.
Notes: Records 94975 and 94976 in November 2017 by Penny English are the first records for Zimbabwe.
Derivation of specific name: coriacea: leathery, thick-leaved
Habitat: The three records from the Bubye Valley Conservancy were growing in deep basalt soils in mopane woodland (P. English, in litt.). Flora Zambesiaca records it as growing in "Dry Acacia bushland, limestone ridges and roadsides".
