Description: |
Small shrub up to c. 1·3 m tall; stems often quadrangular, sparingly stellate-pubescent or densely hairy, often with tubercle-based hairs. Leaves ovate to oblong-lanceolate, 5–12 cm long, acutely pointed at the apex, rounded to cordate at the base, puberulous or pubescent or densely tomentose especially beneath; margin coarsely serrate; petiole up to c. 5 cm long; stipules subulate, up to 8 mm long. Inflorescences leafy, of small clusters crowded at the nodes; peduncles and pedicels very short, mostly less than 5 mm long; bracts linear or lanceolate-linear, 2–4 mm long, setulose-pubescent. Sepals linear, 7–10 mm long, pubescent or with long hairs. Petals yellow, linear to oblanceolate-linear, slightly shorter than the sepals, ciliate at the base. Stamens 8–10. Fruit 1·5–2·7 cm in diameter including the aculei; aculei 0·5–1 cm. long, hairless or long hairy, sharply curved down at the apex. |
