Description:
Perennial with fleshy, fusiform roots, up to 11 cm long. Tuber absent. Stem prostrate, mostly unbranched, to 10 cm long. Leaves more or less fleshy broadly ovate, up to 27 mm long, cordate at the base, under surface paler, uniformly minutely velvety on both surfaces; margin entire; petiole up to 10 mm long, finely velvety. Inflorescence mostly concealed beneath leaves, extra-axillary, 2- or 3-flowered; peduncle to 5 mm long, sparsely velvety, flowers opening in succession. Pedicel 4–8 mm long, occasionally with a few hairs. Sepals linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, c.2.5 mm long, slightly recurved, hairy. Corolla c. 14 mm long, abruptly curved at right angle above basal inflation; tube c. 11.5 mm long, basal chamber indistinct, c. 4 mm wide, limb cylindrical, c. 2.3 mm wide, widening only slightly at mouth; mostly whitish with faint purplish stripes outside, denser towards apex, darkening with age, pubescent towards mouth, hairless inside; lobes oblong, c. 2.5 mm long, mostly flat with shallowly revolute margins, apices fused to form subglobose cage, slightly wider than mouth, dull purple, coarsely appressed pubescent. Follicles and seed not recorded.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: cordifolia: with cordate leaves.
Habitat: Shallow soil among rocks on top of chromium rich soils.
