Description of the genus

Suffrutex, shrubs or small trees. Leaves opposite, sometimes with domatia. Inflorescence of cymes. Flowers bisexual, 4-6-merous. Calyx lobes large, leaf-like, equal, erect inflorescence Corolla tube relatively long; lobes long and pointed. Stigma 2-lobd. Ovary 2-locular. Fruit subspherical, often ribbed.

Worldwide: 25 species in tropical and S Africa

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
