| Description: |
Large perennial herb. Leaves several, in a basal rosette, suberect or arching, shiny bright green, developed at the time of flowering. Inflorescence a terminal, spherical head of orange to red flowers. Flowers with a longer perianth tube, larger segments and more prominent stamens than the closely related S. multiflorus. |
| Notes: | It is a horticultural collectors item but the population numbers seem to be stable. |
| Derivation of specific name: | pole-evansii: named after Reginald John Pole Evans, who sent a specimen to Pretoria, where it was formally described. |
