Description:
Shrub or very small tree up to 2 m tall; bark dark brown, sometimes with a greyish tinge. Leaves restricted to the apex of short lateral spurs or well spaced along new branchlets. Leaves on older growth elliptic to broadly elliptic, 2–5 cm long; leaves on young branchlets narrowly elliptic, 2–6.5 cm long, papery, hairless; lateral veins in 3 main pairs; hair-tuft domatia present; petiole up to 2 mm long; stipules 2.5–4 mm long when young, triangular at base with a linear lobe occasionally somewhat spathulate at the tip, usually becoming corky and losing the lobe when mature. Flowers 5-merous, in 1–5-flowered clusters restricted to the lateral spurs. Calyx 0.75 mm long, hairless. Corolla yellowish; tube 1 mm long with fine dense hairs inside; lobes ovate, 1.5 mm long, slightly thickened at the apex. Fruit almost square in lateral view, slightly tapered towards the base, indented at the apex, 8–9 mm wide.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: ngonii: after John Ngoni, Zimbabwean botanist who collected the type specimen.
Habitat: In riverine or evergreen forest and high rainfall woodland.

Worldwide distribution: Restricted to lower altitude at the southern and southeastern end of the Chimanimani Mts in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
