Perennial herbs with a woody rootstock. Stem (in ours) very short, bearing leafless flowering scapes. Leaves linear, crowded in basal rosettes. Capitula solitary at the top of the scapes, heterogamous, radiate, yellow. Phyllaries connate into a ± campanulate involucre. Achenes villous. Pappus scales regularly 2-seriate. Derivation of name: after Theodore of Gaza (1398-1478) who translated Theophrastus' botanical works from Greek into Latin. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
