Description of the genus

Deciduous shrubs, up to 5 m tall; leaves simple, margins serrated. Flowers in small axillary cymes; corolla weakly zygomorphic, with 5 lobes scarcely arranged in 2 lips; stamens 5. Fruit a capsule.

Worldwide: Between 6 and 36 species native to eastern Asia.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
