Description of the genus

Ornamental shrub or small tree with small elliptic leaves, whitish-tomentose beneath, and large solitary flowers with conspicuous red filaments.

Derivation of name: after João da Silva Feijó (1760-1824), a Portuguese naturalist.

Worldwide: One species, in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
