Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees. Stipules persistent; stipels 0. Leaves often fasciculate on short shoots, imparipinnate. Leaflets alternate or subopposite, entire. Flowers in axillary racemes or solitary. Bracts persistent. Bracteoles persistent, opposite. Calyx 5-lobed, the upper lobes partly fused. Pod consists of 1-6 indehiscent articles.

Derivation of name: from Greek: ormos meaning a necklace and carpos a fruit, referring to the constrictions between the seeds.

Worldwide: 20 species in tropical and warm Old World

Zimbabwe: 2 cultivated taxa.
