Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs, without prickles. Leaves alternate, pinnate. Inflorescences of axillary panicles. Flowers small, bisexual, 4-merous. Sepals and petals 4-5. Stamens 8-10. Fruit a 1-2-seeded berry.

Worldwide: 23 species in the Old World tropics and South Africa
