Synonyms: Sambucus nigra L. subsp. canadensis (L.) Bolli
Common names: Canadian elder (English)
Description: Shrub up to 4 m tall. Leaves 1-pinnate, imparipinnate, foetid when crushed; leaflets, especially the lower, often pedately divided into 2-3 leaflets. Flowers white in a terminal flat-topped inflorescence.
Notes: Commonly cultivated in Harare and clearly escaping into a marshy area in some abundance into the Mukuvisi Woodlands in Harare. There were some records of cultivated plants in SRGH on 3 Sep 2007 but no record of it as an escape.
