Synonyms: Crataegus mexicana Moç. & Sessé:
Common names: Mexican hawthorn (English)
Description: Small tree armed with scattered straight woody spines. Leaves alternate or apparently clustered on short lateral branchlets, elliptic to ovate, hairless, somewhat yellowish-green above with venation impressed, much paler, whitish velvety beneath with midrib prominent; margin irregularly toothed or sometimes slightly lobed; petiole and lower midrib beneath sometimes reddish. Inflorescences terminal; flowers ?white. Fruit subglobose to ellipsoid, up to c. 3 cm long, golden yellow, crowned by the persistent remains of the calyx.
Notes: The La Rochelle list has C. stipulacea; this appears to equate to the f. stipulacea (Loud.) Stapf of C. pubescens.
