Description: Bark smooth, white, grey or mottled, powdery to the touch. Branchlet pith without oil glands. Adult leaves concolorous, shiny green. Inflorescences axillary, simple, 7-flowered umbels; peduncles round or only slightly flattened in cross-section. Operculum conical to beaked; scar present. Fruit 4-5 × 4-5 mm, hemispherical. Valves usually 3, exserted.

Derivation of specific name: scoparia: from the Greek scopa meaning a broom, broom-like; meaning obscure.
