Description of the genus

Annual or perennial herbs, weak-stemmed and semi-climbing. Leaves 2-4-pinnatisect. Umbels compound; outer flowers bisexual with outer petals of the outer flowers radiate; inner flowers usually male. Bracts present, sometimes numerous; bracteoles present. Petals greenish or yellowish-white, sometimes pinkish. Fruit bearing rows of glochidiate spines.

Worldwide: 4 species in NE, tropical and South Africa

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
