PITURANTHOS Viv.
Almost leafless, 'broom-like' subshrubs or shrubs. Basal leaves with linear leaflets, soon withering; mature plants often without leaves. Inflorescences of terminal and lateral compound umbels. Bracts and bracteoles 0 or quickly caducous. Petals yellowish-white (in ours) ovate; apex inflexed. Stylopodium low-conical. Fruit ovoid, ± covered in tubercles. Worldwide: c. 10-12 species, mostly in N Africa and Arabia; two species in southern Africa, one just reaching the FZ area. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
