Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs, occasionally scandent shrubs, with latex, sometimes spiny. Stipules free or connate. Leaves alternate, distichous, shortly petiolate, lamina margins entire or toothed and eglandular, secondary veins pinnate. Inflorescence racemose, spicate or capitate, pedunculated, often 1-flowered. Calyx lobes free or basally adnate with pistillode, imbricate or valvate. Fruit drupes, free, globose. Seed large, globose.

Worldwide: 22 species in tropical and sub-tropical Asia.

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
