Description of the genus

Shrubs, climbing via tendrils. Leaves alternate, pinnatisect, usually ending in a branched tendril. Flowers violet to bright green or white, solitary, borne on long peduncles in the axils. Calyx large, 5-parted; segments leaf-like. Corolla campanulate or broadly cylindric, 5-lobed. Stamens and style declinate, exserted. Capsule leathery, 3-valved. Seeds broadly winged.

Derivation of name: named after Father Cobo, a 17th century Spanish naturalist

Worldwide: c. 10 species in tropical America

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
